Planning Guide

How to Choose a Kitchen Countertop

  1. Start with how you cook

Heavy daily cooking and kids at the counter point to granite or quartz. For a lighter-use kitchen, a rental or a laundry room, laminate does the job for less.

  2. Decide how much upkeep you want

Granite is usually resealed from time to time. If you never want to seal, choose quartz or laminate.

  3. Set your budget early

Laminate stretches a budget further. Granite and quartz are a longer-term investment in the look of the kitchen.

  4. Choose it with your cabinets

Pick the countertop with your cabinet door in hand. A busy granite often looks best with a simple door, while a quiet quartz lets a bold cabinet color stand out. See our kitchen cabinets.

  5. Bring your layout

Bring a sketch with wall lengths and where the sink, cooktop and any island go, so we can plan your countertop and estimate it on the spot.

Bathroom Vanity Countertops

The same materials work in the bathroom. A granite or quartz top stands up to water, makeup and daily use, and a veined or speckled stone gives a simple vanity a finished look.

Questions

Countertop FAQs

Is granite or quartz better for a kitchen?

Both are durable choices for a busy kitchen. Granite is natural stone with a one-of-a-kind pattern and is usually sealed periodically. Quartz is engineered, has a consistent color and pattern, and needs no sealing. If you want a natural look, choose granite; if you want the lowest upkeep, choose quartz.

Is laminate a good countertop choice?

Yes, when budget matters most. Laminate costs less than stone, comes in a wide range of colors and patterns, and needs no sealing. We cut laminate countertops to custom size for your layout. Use trivets for hot pans.

Can I see countertop options before I buy?

Yes. Visit our showroom at 221 Frelinghuysen Ave, Newark to compare countertops next to cabinet doors and plan your kitchen or bathroom with our design team. Walk-ins are welcome Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5:00 and Saturday 9:30 to 2:00.

Do you install countertops?

No, we don't offer installation. We help you choose your countertop and cabinets and deliver curbside, so plan to have your own contractor install them.

How do I get a countertop estimate?

Visit the showroom with your kitchen measurements for an immediate estimate, call 973-732-4850, or send a request through our quote form and we'll contact you the same business day.
