This white shaker kitchen is built around a marble-look waterfall island, where the countertop runs down both ends of the island to the floor. White kitchen cabinets with brass hardware frame the room, and the island seats four. The cabinets and countertops came from the Kitchen Factory Newark showroom, and the layout was planned by our in-house designer, Diamant.

The Design
White shaker cabinets run along the perimeter and up toward the ceiling, with a few glass-front doors to break up the long run of upper cabinets. A white range hood sits between the uppers, so the cooking wall reads as part of the cabinetry rather than an appliance.
The marble-look surface continues from the countertops onto the backsplash, which keeps the walls calm and lets the island stand out.
The Details
The waterfall island is the centerpiece: a wide white top with gray veining that drops down each end. Brass handles on the white cabinets pick up the brass faucet and the pendant fittings above the island. A farmhouse sink sits below the window run, and a full-height cabinet panel frames the refrigerator.
Planning a Waterfall Island Kitchen
Decide where the waterfall ends go
A waterfall edge shows off the countertop pattern, so it works best on the ends people see first when they walk in. Plan it together with the island cabinets, since the end panels change the cabinet sizes.
Keep the perimeter quiet
When the island is the statement piece, simple white shaker doors and a matching backsplash keep the room from feeling busy.
Pick one metal and repeat it
Here, brass is used on the cabinet handles, the faucet and the pendant fittings. Repeating one finish makes the whole kitchen look planned. You can compare hardware finishes side by side at the showroom.
