Project · Kitchen Cabinets & Countertops
This two-tone kitchen pairs natural wood shaker cabinets on the bottom with white shaker cabinets on top. It is a simple way to get the warmth of wood kitchen cabinets without making the room feel dark. The cabinets and countertops came from the Kitchen Factory Newark showroom, and the layout was planned with our in-house design team.

The Design
The kitchen follows an L-shape along two walls of windows. White upper cabinets keep the window wall light, while the wood base cabinets ground the room. On the facing wall, a floor-to-ceiling run of wood cabinetry frames the refrigerator and a stack of double wall ovens, so the large appliances sit inside one clean cabinet wall.
The Details
Brass handles are used on both finishes, which ties the wood and white cabinets together. White countertops run the full length of the L, and a light stone-look backsplash adds texture without competing with the wood grain. A gas cooktop sits under a microwave cabinet in the upper run, and the sink faces the window.
Planning a Two-Tone Kitchen
Put the darker finish low
Wood or darker cabinets on the bottom and white on top is the easiest two-tone combination to live with. The room stays bright at eye level, and the base cabinets hide everyday wear better.
Group the tall appliances
A refrigerator and wall ovens look calmer inside one tall cabinet wall than spread around the room. Bring the appliance specs so the tall cabinets can be planned around them.
Use one hardware finish for both colors
The same brass handle on wood and white doors makes two finishes look like one design. See the options in our hardware range.
